How To: Boiled Yam | Isu Ati Ata Dindin

Yam is one of the most popular food in west Africa. It is eaten in different ways like pounded yam, fried yam, boiled yam, yam porridge and lots more...

Boiled yam is rich in carbohydrates and it is a right choice when you have a heavy duties ahead of you. Boiled yam is very like very very easy to make and it is best served with fried egg or ata dindin and sometimes palm oil.


All you need are:
  • A tuber of yam
  • Salt to taste and 
  • water
Cooking Procedures                                                                                     

1. Peel the yam tuber. Be careful with it as the peel may cause skin irritation

2. Wash the peeled yam in lukewarm water and then sliced into desirable shapes

3. Place the yam slices in the pot, add salt to taste and fill the pot with water
    so that it is half of what the yam occupies

4. Cover the pot and set to high heat for 10- 25 mins. Add more water if the
    yam is still hard and the water has dried up.

5. Remove from heat and leave to cool.

Clean up cooking area while yam is boiling and get ready to prepare the fried egg or Ata dindin.
