How to: Yam And Beans Porridge | Ewa Ati Isu


Beans and Yam porridge are popularly known among the Yoruba tribe as Ewa ati Isu. If you're tired of eating only Beans recipes or only Yam recipes, then this is for you.


Beans and yam porridge is a good staple food mainly eaten in the day and yes,it causes bloating if not well prepared, i.e if the beans is not soft enough

Ingredients needed are:
  • 3 cups of Beans (black eyed or brown)
  • 1/2 tuber of yam
  • 1 cup of palm oil
  • 1 tablespoon of dried grouned crayfish
  • 1 large scotch bonnet
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • maggi and salt to taste
Cooking Procedures:                                                                                    

1. Pick the beans and rinse in warm water, transfer into a pot, add 1teaspoon of
    salt and fill in water to cover the beans, at least 3 inches above the beans. 
   Cook for 30 minutes. If you're using a pressure cooker, that would be 10 
   mins.

2. Peel, wash and dice the yam; into small cubes and set aside. Also chop the 
    the onions and ata rodo or blend it with the crayfish if not grounded and set
    aside too

3. When the beans is soft enough that it easily breaks in your hand/mouth, add
    another cup of water,the palm oil, and then the yam.

4. Leave for 5 mins to cook, then add the blended or chopped onions and 
    pepper together with the crayfish, add salt and maggi to taste.

5. Leave to cook for another 10- 15minutes on medium heat, check for taste
    and adjust to desire.

6. When yam is soft and water is dried, take off heat and set aside for 5 minutes
    to cool, then stir with a wooden spoon so that the beans yam is evenly mixed
